No, but Iraq wanted him dead anyway. Iraq was under the repressive dictatorship of Sadaam Hussein and the Baath Party for more than tweny years, so perhaps it was necessary for retribution, but not for democracy.

Not at all. As villains go, Sadaam Hussein was a great one, and his execution by the new pro-Western Iraqi government was celebrated for about fifteen minutes in the US. However, if he had lived the rest of his life in prison, or in hiding, it would not have affected the US at all. His removal from power in Iraq was what affected the US.

There were many factors; better equipment, training, organization, leadership, intelligence, and air superiority, but after the war General Schwarzkopf gave ample credit to Sadaam Hussein for helping the Gulf Coalition win. By spreading his forces in a thin line along the Iraq-Saudi border, Sadaam invited the strategy that proved to be his undoing. Also, Schwarzkopf pointed out that Sadaam made a terrible blunder by not invading Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf States when he had the chance, before help from the other countries could arrive.
