The architect Imhotep built Egypt's first step pyramid, the Pyramid of Djoser, for the Pharaoh Djoser. Imhotep was his vizier.
The Step Pyramid of Djoser is located in Saqqara, Egypt. It is part of the Saqqara necropolis, a large burial ground that served as a royal cemetery for the ancient city of Memphis.
The stepped Pyramid of Djoser was built as a series of six mastabas, or flat-roofed rectangular structures, stacked on top of one another to create a stepped effect. It was constructed using limestone and had a height of about 200 feet (60 meters). Over time, it was eventually enclosed within a larger pyramid complex.
The main excavator for Djoser's pyramid was done by French architect and archaeologist, Jean-Philippe Laurer.
