No, the Athenians and Plataeans were waiting for them, staying in the hills to be safe from the Persian cavalry, when they saw the cavalry being loaded on ships, so they ran down and defeated the inferior Persian infantry, now unprotected by its cavalry. After the Persians went home, the Spartan contingent arrived, heard the news, went to inspect the battlefield, congratulated the Athenians, and went on home.
