The gerbil lives in a desert environment. They get most of their water from their food but still need water to drink. They can stand heat. They won't pee a lot because they can't waste water in the desert.
Gerbils need exercise because they move fast. Also they need to chew. Like all rodents gerbils teeth grow quickly and they need to wear them down.
Gerbils tails, kind of like lizards, will break at the tip. If you grab the very end of a gerbils tail, it will break off with a lot of blood so as to distract their predator. Unfortunately, it will not grow back. This will not harm the gerbil, only help them if they're in danger.
