The slaves had many methods of escaping other than the underground rail road. One method in particular, was utilized by "Henry Box Brown". Henry "Box" Brown mailed himself out of a slave state to a free state in a wooden box! (Please read his narrative, it is an awesome and inspiring true story of his personal accounts). Another noted method utilized, was following the "North Star". Slaves would travel at night and sleep and hide out during the day.
