There are 50 stars on the US flag
Every year on 4 July, the U. S. adopts a flag that has the same number of stars as the number of states in the U. S., unless, of course, the current flag already has that many stars.
The current US flag was designed shortly after the American Revolution. The red and white stripes, of which there are 13, represent the original 13 colonies. The white stars on a blue background represent the states. The original design was a circle of stars but as states joined the Union this was modified to rows of stars. The current flag has, thus, 50 stars, one for each state.
In 2016, there are 50 stars on the flag of the United States of America and each star represents a state in the union.
