It is usually torn by a hit from the outside or the inside of the knee. I fell of the bike sidesays. A friend of mine fell from a snowboard, but you could also tear it playing sports such as soccer, hockey and football. Though don't worry many athletes tear it and get back into sports.

you can hurt your acl by doing sports like Rugby football or basket ball. i am a 16 year old girl and i do many sports but i tore my acl getting out of my moms truck. simple things like steping off a sidewalk or twisting your knee can damage your acl. i was sledding with some frinds and i tore it more. not knowing that i tore it in the first place. now i have to get surgery on my knee, i find out on monday when the surgery happens.
Your knee is a joint and therefore cannot be broken. But you can break your knee cap. I broke mine and I had to have had 3 surgery's and it was a very clean break.
