disconnect battery, drain coolant, remove fan shroud, fan clutch, and water pump pulley. remove water pump, clean mating surface on block. apply RTV sealant to both sides of new gasket, install water pump and torque bolts to proper torque, install pump pulley and torque to proper setting. Remainder of procedure is reverse of removal.

I found a pretty easy way to change it. Follow these steps:

1) remove belt

2) remove 4 bolts holding the fan onto the fan clutch

3) remove 1 of the bolts on the water pump pulley

4) I made a tool to hold the water pump still by drilling a hole in a metal ruler that the bolt I removed would fit into

5) Install the tool with the bolt removed and fully tighten it

6) holding the ruler, I put a pipe wrench on the very large nut that holds the fan clutch to the water pump and turned it counter clockwise looking at the front of the motor

7) remove the 4 bolts that hold the fan to the fan clutch and break it loose

8) remove the fan clutch from the water pump and carefully set it inside the fan shroud

9) remove the pulley from the water pump (4 bolts)

10) remove the water pump from the front of the motor (several 10mm bolts)

11) reverse for reassembly

Most of the tips I found involved remove either from the grill back or at least the fan and fan shroud. I estimate this saved me at least an hour and worked better than using (or buying) the special tool made for holding the pump still.

http://www.metacafe.com/watch/874963/water_pump_replacement/

Watch this video. It makes it very clear.

The video is for a 2005 Caravan, with the 3.3 engine, but I believe a 2003 would be the same.

just replaced a 2004 3.3 water pump. I am a back yard mechanic that rebuilds cars as a hobby. You need a 1/4 drive with a 10 mm socket. A 3/8ths drive to lower the engine, not sure the size of the motor mount bolts. You need to drain the system, replace the lower radiater hose, when you drain! lower the motor by loosening the bolts, maybe a half inch. If your not sure support the engine before loosening the bolts..(left side on Top) loosen the belt and remove the pully ( 3 bolts ). I think 5.. 10 mm bolts. put new pump in, make sure the gasket remains in place..( adheshive spray for most people) tighten in a pattern like you would a tire. replace belt, fill fluids and you ready to go!

Forgot to tell you take the right front tire off and the platic cover ( 3 plastic clips you'll have to relace I am sure). Take your time, if your good with tools it will take a couple hours on your back. If not and you don't have the rights tools, let someone do it for you, you'll struggle and the extra money to pay is worth it. Plus the warranty with the fix is wirth the struggles. Good luck!

When replacing a water pump, it is necessary to drain the cooling system. Any components--belts, fan, fan shroud, shaft spacers, or viscous drive clutch--should be removed to make the pump accessible. Some pumps are attached to the cylinder block as shown below. Installing a water pump. Courtesy of Dana Corporation. Loosen and remove the bolts in a crisscross pattern from the center outward. Insert a rag into the block opening and scrape off any remains of the old gasket. WARNING When working on the coolant system (for example, replacing the water pump or thermostat), a certain amount of coolant will spill on the floor. The antifreeze in the coolant causes it to be very slippery. Always immediately wipe up any coolant that spills to reduce or eliminate the chance of injury. When replacing a water pump, always follow the procedures recommended by the manufacturer. Most often a coating of good waterproof sealer should be applied to a new gasket before it is placed into position on the water pump. Coat the other side of the gasket with sealer, and position the pump against the engine block until it is properly seated. Install the mounting bolts and tighten them evenly in a staggered sequence to the torque specifications with a torque wrench. Careless tightening could cause the pump housing to crack. Check the pump to make sure it rotates freely. The water pumps on many late-model OHC engines are driven by the engine's timing belt. When replacing the water pump on these engines, always replace the timing belt. Make sure all pulleys and gears are aligned according to specifications when installing the belt.
