Use (or make) an electromagnet as a control. Like the solonoid on your car's starter or power door locks Low voltage types available at Radio shack or the like...
An electrical device activated by a current that opens or closes another circuit is called a relay. A contactor also falls into this category.
The definition of a switch is a device that closes and opens an electrical circuit.
opens and closes the circuit
The switch.
opens and closes the circuit
A switch.
A relay will have a control circuit and a function circuitcould be the same feed line. One set of terminals (Hot and Load) can be activated at all times, but will not function until the control circuit is closed. The control circuit has a Hot and a Ground--when activated either by supply hot or ground by switch. The internal coil closes allowing the function circuit to operate. The purpose of this relay is to reduce the spike to the alternator. It takes less current (voltage) to close the coil on the relay than it would to operate the accessory that it controls
when a circuit is closed, electricity can move though it.
A switch, switching transistor, or circuit breaker usually does.
It opens and closes a circuit and it makes the bulb turn off and on and it completes a circuit when it is closed.
Generally a circuit breaker (like a light switch) But I guess you could use a resistor of the right resistance If you are talking about the circuit breaker there is an electromagnetic coil in it which get magnetized on a specific amount of current and breaks the circuit
It is a switch that is activated by light levels. They are used in dusk to dawn sensors. Light in the daytime, through the switch, holdsthe circuit open. At night, with no light source on the sensor cell, the switch closes and is usedto bring the night light on.
