Getting to the rear spark plugs on a 1986 or earlier is a bit of a chore but can be done. Reach in just above the exhaust manifold from the right side of the car. It is a tight fit. You can also reach in from the left side, but is a tighter fit.
For a 1987 or later it is a lot easier. Just reach in from the right side of the car above the exhaust manifold. Again it is tight but easier than the earlier models.

You will need to remove the spark plug wires on your Chevrolet 3.1 liter engine. Remove the spark plugs with a 5/8 deep well socket. Turn the socket to the left. The spark plugs will come out. Reverse the process to install the new spark plugs.
