On a 2004 Ford Freestar : ( No ) Both the 3.9 and the 4.2 liter V6 engines have the ( Electronic Distributorless Ignition System , EDIS ) They use ( 1 coil pack with 6 towers for the spark plug wires )

Check the Vehicle Emission Control Information ( VECI ) decal located in the front of the engine compartment ( it will show what type of spark plugs to use and the spark plug gap )
On the 2004 Freestar both the 3.9 and 4.2 litre engine the gap is 1.3-1.4 MM, .052-.056". This comes right from the owners manual

You have to remove the front wheels to gain access to the spark plugs.
There is not a drain plug on the Freestar - a good old fashioned siphon hose will do the trick.
The spark plugs on a Ford Explorer are replaced by first disconnecting the battery. Remove the spark plug using a spark plug socket. Replace with the factory recommended spark plug.
