Make trip to your local auto parts store. They have or can get you a harness that plugs in to your harness. No cutting, soldering or taping. The connections are weather proof. Should take you all of ten minutes to install. They average in price around $30. Can't beat it!
You will find the tail light harness under the back of the vehicle. Unplug the harness and plug in the trailer harness between the two vehicle connectors. The kit should also contain instructions.

I took mine in to Uhaul to have them install a tow bar and light harness. Mine didn't come with a light harness, they had to install one.
You need an adapter depending on the harness. I got one that makes a 5 wire system work with a four wire(difference being separate blinker and brake lights. I then went to uhaul and them put it in for $45.
You can purchase an "in-line" adapter that you can just plug in. Just in front of the rear bumper, you should be able to see the tail light wiring harness plug. You can disconnect the plug and put one of the adapters in its place, then you're done.

Check your fuses and look for a dead-short on the tail light wire (probably brown).
