A second controller will not work unless the game is designed for more than a single player. The PS3 itself is not designed for 2 controllers to be used and active when only one is needed and to use the second one you need to disconnect the first. To register the second controller just push the Playstation Emblem and the second red light will light for that controller, but it will not be active until it is needed.
