You first need to remove the dist. cap and look at the rotor button. There will be a pointer on it. have some one bump the ingition key a little at a time while you watch it turn, keep bumbing the key until it is pointing stright at the fire wall, then stop and mark the fire wall were the pointer on the rotor button is pointing. Be sure not to turn the engine over anymore. Then look at the bottom of the dist. shaft were it goes into the engine you will see a clamp with a bolt in it that holds the dist. in the engine. It is best to mark the shaft and intake were the clamp goes too. Now take the 15mm bolt out of the clamp. now you are ready to lift the dist. out of the engine.pay close attition to the direction the rotor button turns as you lift the dist. up and out of the engine. Do this slow and when the rotor button quits turning mark where it is now pointing on the fire wall. So when you go to put it back in you will need to line the rottor button pointer up with you last mark you made on the fire wall as you set the dist. back down in the engine the rotor button will rotate back to the very first mark you made on the fire wall when you started, if it is all the way down and pointing at your first mark then you did it install clamp and bolt then look at the marks you made on the shaft and intake line those back up. tighten the 15mm bolt, install cap and start engine. sounds easy don`t it. not to hard just remember all your marks.
To replace the distributor on a 5.7L Vortec engine, first, disconnect the negative battery cable and remove any components obstructing access to the distributor. Mark the position of the old distributor and the rotor's orientation for proper alignment during reinstallation. Remove the distributor hold-down bolt and lift the distributor out, taking care not to disturb the engine timing. Install the new distributor, aligning it with your marks, secure it with the hold-down bolt, and reconnect any components and the battery.
To remove and replace the distributor on a 1997 5.7 Vortec engine, first disconnect the battery and remove the ignition coil and any wiring connected to the distributor. Mark the position of the distributor housing and rotor for proper alignment during reinstallation. Remove the distributor hold-down bolt and carefully lift the distributor out, noting the orientation of the gear. Install the new distributor by aligning it with the marked position, securing it with the hold-down bolt, and reconnecting all wiring and the ignition coil.
You have to remove the engine cylinder heads to get to the lifters on the 5.3.

Yes.
The knock 1 sensor on a Vortec 4.8 is located on the top of the engine. You will have to remove the intake to gain access to replace it.
YES, The 350 Vortec does. It is in the back top side of the engine. All the plug wires go to it.
Top side rear of the engine block next to the distributor.
It's at the top rear of the engine near the distributor.
The 4.3L V6 GM engine does not have a timing belt it has a chain, and it does not directly drive the distributor.
The egr valve on the 1999 vortec v6 is bolted to the intake valve. It is just behind the distributor.
On top of engine, in back, just to the drivers side of the distributor.
