the library should have a shop manual for this vehicle, you can make copies of the right sections :)
jack up car and change plugs from behind each front tire.
The manual will state when to perform tuneup.
you have to life up the rubber covering inside the wheel wells and the plugs are right there
Hello I had to remove the curtains from the inside of the front fender wells to access the spark plugs on my 1998 Mountaneer. Be prepared to replace the curtains because most of the clips will break when removed. Hope this helps.
Remove the spark plug wires from your 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis spark plugs. Remove the spark plugs by turning them to the left with a deep well 5/8 socket. Reverse the process to install the new spark plugs.
Check the Vehicle Emission Control Information ( VECI ) decal in the front of your engine compartment . It will show what type of spark plug to use and the spark plug gap
( 6 ) if you have the 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine and ( 8 ) if you have the 5.0 liter , V8 engine
On my 2000 Mountaineer, One side is accessibly from top. Other side, take off wheel. take off mud covers and access was easy. Not sure if this will be helpful on 97.
