Save the workbook as an Excel 2007 file instead of 97-2003 file.

When you save a workbook with external reference formulas, Excel will save the most recent results. When the file is next opened, it will update itself based on the other files.
Microsoft Excel offers more than 30 file formats for saving a workbook. Iif you go to Save As and bring up the list in the "Save as Type" field, it will show you all the available options for your version of Excel.

To remove a spreadsheet (also known as a worksheet) from a workbook in Excel, right-click on the tab of the worksheet you want to delete. Then, select "Delete" from the context menu that appears. Confirm the deletion if prompted, and the worksheet will be removed from the workbook. Make sure to save your workbook afterward if you want to keep the changes.
When the Save As dialog box opens, go to the Tools menu in the top left, then pick General Options and you can do it from there.
open file in excel 2007 then press ribbon and go to Save as, you will see Excel 1997-2003 Workbook option, click on it and save file.
To exit Excel, click on the "File" tab in the top left corner and select "Close" to close the current workbook, or choose "Exit" to close the entire application. Alternatively, you can simply click the "X" button in the top right corner of the window. You can also use the keyboard shortcut "Alt + F4" to close Excel directly. If you have unsaved changes, Excel will prompt you to save before exiting.
