First, buy a book. You'll need the wiring diagrams anyway. TRUST ME. I'm assuming that you're already in there and are having trouble with reassembly. on a single cam car, I don't remember. I think there's a timing mark on the back side of the cam cover to line up on the pulley. Twin cam is my specialty. Just had mine apart tonight. There is a timing mark on each of the cam gears. They should point towards each other in the middle. DO NOT ROTATE THE CAMS WITH THE CRANK MARKS LINED UP!!! The crank is just an arrow to arrow kind of thing. If you intend to rotate the camshafts, then rotate the crank COUNTER CLOCKWISE THREE TEETH. this eliminates the possibility of piston to valve contact. I use a straight edge on the cams. Line it across the mid section of the cam bolts and then use an 18mm wrench to align the camshafts. Put the belt on them to keep them aligned with each other, then work on the crank. Patience is required. I can have it stripped down, new belt on, and back together in less than 3 HRS. I spend at least a half hour of that playing with the timing, and getting it RIGHT. Remember, one tooth on the cam is 20.5 crank degrees. It can only handle 15 before you smash a valve either into another valve, or the piston. After it's all lined up, put about 16-20 Ft/Lbs of torque on the bolt in the center of the tensioner pulley, slide the preloaded tensioner against it, and lock it down. Assembly is reverse of removal. (I've always wanted to say that)... LUCK
how to set the timing marks on a single cam dodge neon
get the pullys lined up at the timing marks
Yes, the service manual will have a diagram for the timing belt. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=1999+neon+timing+marks&FORM=HDRSC2
The best thing to do is go to auto zone and purchase a chilton manual on your neon I did and is very handy to have. Gives you step by step details on timing marks to water pump replacements everything is there
timing marks dodge 2.2 engine how to set them
The timing on a 1989 Dodge truck should be set to 10* after unplugging the temperature sensor.
Ignition timing or valve timing?
Use a timing light
where are the timing marks on a 94 2.5 dodge shadow es
The marks on the timing chain gears are not TDC compression. They are TDC exhaust.
the timing marks on the cam sprockets need to lined up. I would not attempt this repair if you don't know what you're doing. If the timing is off and you rotate the engine, you can cause severe damage to your valves.
The timing marks on a '97 Dodge Stratus are located on the timing chain and the camshaft sprocket. They must be aligned to set the initial timing.
