You don't say what model year of Ford Taurus , but over the years there was
the 3.0 liter " Vulcan " V6 engine and the 3.8 liter V6 engine which are both
Over Head Valve ( OHV ) / pushrod design engines and
The " Duratec " engine is a DOHC engine
i cant tell how to find out its a eci 3000
look on top of the valve caver and it will have SOHC/or/DOHC. that will tell u if its either check it out.
how can i tell sohc or dohc
The sohc will have silver valve covers. The dohc will be black. If you still cant tell look up a picture on google images
SOHC
"SOHC" Means Single Over head Cam and DOHC means Dual (2) Over Head Cam. Example: on lately Ford Mustangs , It comes with 4.6L SOHC and DOHC Engines, which basically it will tell you whether there is/are 1 or 2 camshafts over each cylinder head.
Sohc
SOHC--Single OverHead Cam DOHC -- Dual OverHead Cam
Not necessarily better just a different technology. Search Google with the term,"DOHC versus SOHC".Not necessarily better just a different technology. Search Google with the term,"DOHC versus SOHC".
On the 1996 Ford Taurus GL : The 3.0 litre " Vulcan " V6 engine is an Over Head Valve / pushrod design engine ( I believe you could get an optional engine , which was the 3.0 litre " Duratec " V6 engine which is a DOHC design )
all 96 gt mustangs had the 4.6 sohc. only the cobra had the 4.6 dohc.
i believe the mounting is the same however the DOHC will have a better power output than the SOHC
