When using a rechargeable electric toothbrush, it isn't necessary to press hard or scrub. Simply guide the brush while it provides the brushing action. In fact, some electric toothbrushes have pressure sensors that alert you when you're brushing too hard.
As the toothbrush needs to be waterproof, it can not have a charging plug point. The toothbrush batteries therefore have to be charged through the case without any direct electrical connection. This can be achieved by induction.
In the base unit (the toothbrush stand) there will be a coil of copper wire which, when the base unit is plugged in to the electricity, will generate a moving magnetic field. In the toothbrush handle there will be another coil of wire which, when placed in the moving magnetic field made by the base unit, generates an electric current in the handle. This electric current is then used to charge up the toothbrush batteries.
In any electric toothbrush there is an electric motor and a battery inside the handle. When you use the on/off switch to connect the motor to the battery, the motor spins very fast and drives some gears which turn the brush head backwards and forwards to clean your teeth.
Some electric toothbrushes have replaceable batteries which means that, when the battery runs down so that the motor won't run, you have to take out the old battery and put in a new one.
If the toothbrush is the kind that is rechargeable, it has a battery which does not have to be removed and replaced by a new one. Instead, you place the handle onto a charger unit and when that is plugged into a home ac power socket it re-charges the battery.
