Franklin began life in relative poverty, the son of a skilled craftsman who could barely afford to send his many sons to school. Franklin learned to be a printer's apprentice under his older brother. From these lowly means, he ascended in to fame and fortune. Franklin was the first American "rags to riches" story. Because he changed his class in a system where that was not encouraged, he really didnt fit in. Franklin truly only felt accepted in France, particularly with the women of higher class.
