Christmas is traditionally a Christian holiday. It is meant to be the observation of the birth of Christ. In modern times, only about 1% of the population of China is Christian, so Christmas is not commonly celebrated there.

In older Chinese times, it was illegal to be a Christian. It was something that a person could even be executed for. Even if a person was Christian, they would definitely not want to associate with the customs openly. Celebrating Christmas could have been disastrous for them during this point in history.

Back When? You did not specify a year. Also, as you should know; China is not a Christian nation like the USA. They most likely don't celebrate Christmas.
