Buoyancy wasn't invented by anyone, but it was first discovered by Archimedes. He never considered about buoyancy until one day, he had to help the King solve a problem, which got him stirred about buoyancy.

Bouyancy has always been around. Archimedes simply understood it when he saw the bath water rise as he got in the bath.

As the story goes, the king wanted to know if the goldsmith alloyed some silver in with his crown, and asked Archimedes to find out. Archimedes thought about this and one day discerned the principle at the bath. It is claimed that he jumped out and ran back to him home naked shouting Eureka!

He took a lump of gold with the same mass as the crown, and a lump of silver the same mass as the crown. He then measured the displacement of water by the gold, by the crown, and by the silver. He discovered that the crown displaced more than the gold, but less than the silver. He concluded that the crown was not pure gold, and must therefore have been alloyed with silver. The king promptly executed the goldsmith.
