I would guess that it was stressful trying to take care of all of them. He never had any type of sexual relationship with the majority of them but married them to help support them (usually older women who had no means of support / finances). Even then, he had have several wives he did have children (41 kids plus some adopted and step children) but I would guess it would of been hard to juggle time between everyone.
