How was monsters inc created?

The initial idea for Monsters, Inc. came from Pete Docter during a lunch meeting in 1994 during production of Toy Story. Work on the script began two years later, and eventually included the character, Mike Wazowski, who was not in the original story treatment. After the script was finalized, production began in 2000. During that time, the animation team developed an animation system that would add the hair and the clothes onto the characters.
