In his Gettysburg Address, President Abraham Lincoln, used the example of the American Revolutionary War as an example of the American Civil War.
Lincoln, explained that just as the Colonists fought for their freedom to be an independent and united nation from England, so was the American Civil War happening to free the slaves, and give them the rights that Whites enjoyed.
