Minos, king of crete, received a beautiful white bull as a gift from Poseidon. He was meant to sacrifice it to Poseidon, but found it so beautiful that he sacrificed another bull instead. Angry, Poseidon made Minos' wife Pasiphae fall in love with the bull. She had the kings' engineer, Daedalus, construct a cow suit for her. In this the bull made her pregnant. When the child was born, it was half man and half bull. Mino means Minos, taur means bull.
