English Bulldogs were breed for baiting bulls in preparation for bull fighingt. Once bull fighting became outlawed a few individuals decided to continue breeding the dogs and breed the aggressiveness out of the breed. Now the breed is known for it's companionship and loving nature expecially towards children and other dogs.
The term "Alapaha Bulldog" is already in English, referring to a specific breed of dog that originated in the southern United States. This breed is known for its muscular build, loyalty, and protective nature. The name "Alapaha" comes from the Alapaha River in Georgia, where the breed was developed.
The American Bulldog breed was not developed until the 1980's however, the dog breed in which they descended from was the Olde English Bulldogge. The Olde English Bulldogge ( dating back to the 1700-1800's) looked extremely similar to the American Bulldog only it had more English Bulldog characteristics (like a shorter snout) than the American Bulldog.
