First of all, I think that you con probably infer what the answer is to this question is, if you just thought about it! In the Old Stone Age, there was hunter/gatherers that hunted animals and gathered food, but in the New Stone Age, the hunter/gatherers learned how to farm and got surpluses (extra or more than they needed), which led to the population increase, so there were too many people for them all to be farmers. Some of the people became artisans or got other specialized jobs!
