The rifle was not as deadly as the machine gun or artillery, but it WAS deadly. By WW 1, rifles included the German 8mm Mauser, the British .303 caliber SMLE, and the American 30-06 caliber 1903 Springfield. All were high powered repeating rifles, accurate to several hundred meters.

Even a rifle in World War One is still dangerous today. They have a slow rate of fire but can easily kill someone if it is in good condition. After all millions died during that war.
