A dog doesn't understand languages per say. A dog interprets the sounds we humans make as bad good or a command depending on the tone. When training a dog, it learns by associating a certain sound with an action. It does not intuitively know that "sit" means put "you're butt down". But they do learn the sounds associated with what you as the owners wants them to do. This is why it is such a slow process.

What language do you speak to a dog?

You speak whatever language you want. The dog can be trained to understand a few things if you are consistent. In other words, you speak the canine dialects of two related and overlapping languages with dogs: Body Language and Operant Conditioning. The better you are at these two languages, the more successful and enjoyable your communication with your dog will be.

Why do you have to tell a dog more than once not to do something?

People must instruct a dog more than once, because dogs do not understand human language. If you give a command to your dog repeatedly as he completes a certain task (like "sit" when your dog sits) he will, by tone of voice, understand that when you use that tone, you want him to sit.

How do you speak dog?

People ask all the time how do you understand a dog? Well you can understand a dog just by reading their sign language. Examples are: if a do scratches on their food dish then that means they want food. Also if they whine by the door that means they have to use the bathroom. Dogs have many ways of saying or doing things to tell you something. Next time you look at your dog try to understand what he or she wants. They all have needs you know.
