There is much experimental evidence that birds can detect Earth's magnetic field and orient themselves with it.

To orient themselves in flight, pilots either: 1. Use visual cues outside the cockpit to keep the airplane stable and on track or 2. (more used) use instruments inside the cockpit that act as visual cues (attitude indicator, speed indicator, altimeter, and GPS)
We don't know for sure, but the eye doesn't form an image. It is thought to help the insect orient its body when in flight.
It's ultimately responsible for both of those activities, in the most fundamental sense. If there were no solar system, there would be no places for the animals to roam from or migrate to, and no frame for them to reference in order to orient themselves.
The control of migration, its timing and response are genetically controlled and appear to be a primitive trait that is present even in non-migratory species of birds. The ability to navigate and orient themselves during migration is a much more complex phenomenon that may include both endogenous programs as well as learning.

Dipole molecules, those having a negatively charged pole and a positively charged pole, if they are in a liquid medium such as an aqueous solution, will orient themselves according to Coulomb's Law, with negative poles close to positive poles and distant from other negative poles.
its not in the Orient
The adjective from of Orient is oriental.

Muslims orient themselves toward the Kaaba in Mecca when praying because it is considered the holiest site in Islam. The act of facing the Kaaba during prayer symbolizes unity and solidarity among the Muslim community, as all Muslims around the world face the same direction when they pray. It also serves as a physical focal point to help Muslims concentrate and feel a connection with the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and the origins of Islam.
A bee has five eyes: two compound eyes on the sides of the head and three tiny simple eyes, called ocelli, on top of the head. The ocelli do not form images but respond to changes of brightness more quickly than the compound eyes. It is thought they are used by the bee to orient itself as it pitches and rolls in flight.
