Most girls were educated at home in cooking, cloth making, and others skills for running a home. They typically married young and began raising children soon after. Only girls from wealthy families had an opportunity to learn how to paint or read music.

The other major differences were that there were no automobiles or electrical appliances, no frozen foods, few imported foods, and no medical or dental care as we think of it today. Girls were completely subject to the direction of their fathers, and later their husbands. They had little or no rights and in most cases could not own property.

In the middle ages girls typically had arranged marriages somewhere between age 12 to 14 and were then expected to become "baby factories" for their husbands (who were often 2 or 3 times their age), modern girls do not.

In the middle ages girls generally were not allowed to go to school.

In the middle ages both girls and boys typically had to do hard labor just to keep the family functioning, often on the Feudal Lord's fields, modern girls and boys actually spend most of their time in leisure activities.

etc.
