First fielded in South VN in 1962/63 along with the M113s. The M114 was supposed to be a reconnaissance armored fighting vehicle & the M113 strictly a battle taxi. But the M114 Scout vehicle was nearly blown in half every time they hit a land mine. Where as the M113 would only have to be repaired (when striking the same size mine). Consequently the US Army removed them from the field and Vietnam as a dismal failure. But the peacetime US Army in CONUS, Europe, and South Korea continued to use them until GEN. Abrams ordered them all disposed of in 1973.
The M113 of course soldiered on as an ACAV in South Vietnam then reverted back to an APC after the war and is in use today in the 21st century.
