well ... a wheel isn't really necessary ... you can transport stuff by rolling it over cylinders for example, such you can build by cutting trees.

lay them on the ground, put the heavy object on them and pull: the "rolls" will move.

now you just need to keep putting the rolls that are left behind the object in front of the object so the stone never touches the ground

There are many theories. At one pyramid site (lisht) wooden skids were found. There is the theory that the blocks were rolled. In Florida there is a state park called Coral Castle where one man (Ed Leedskalnin) claimed that he discovered how the Egyptians built the pyramids. Using that knowledge he single handedly built a massive monument in Florida. Which is called Coral castle.

Working alone at night, Leedskalnin, who weighed less than 100 lb quarried and moved over 1000 tons of rock.

Every text ( and old Biblical epic movies) reports that the pyramids were made of limestone blocks positioned by thousands of slaves, but Joseph Davidovits (a French Cemical Engineer) proposed, in the 1980's, that they were made of concrete. The lower tiers were done by the sweating slaves method, but the higher layers were made by workers carrying bags of wet cement to moulds.

MIT is actually reviewing this proposal by duplicating the theorized Egyptian cement mixture.
