At the beginning of the American Revolution the patriotic army had the advantage that the solders believed in their cause. The American Solders were literate free citizens willing and wanting to fight. Their officers existed to prevent them from charging into the British ranks. The British solders were basically poor with many criminals in their ranks. They feared their officers more than they feared the enemy. When American snipers killed their officers, the British solders would not fight. The Americans had the disadvantage of a shortage of ammunition and a need to plant crops in the spring and harvest them in the fall. Also until July, 4, 1776, the battles had been to keep the British from burning specific towns or run them out of areas where they had captured towns, burned houses, and raped the women.
well in the begging of the war the first major battle was the battle of bunker hill it was a british victory but at what cost. so many british solders lost there lives that day .

1,600 British solders were killed in the 1812 war and 3,679 were wounded.
Yes because the british army uniform was a red coat.
During the Revolutionary War for the most part, armies did not fight in winter. Most of the American solders would go home and rebuild their health. The Americans knew which roots contained Vitamin C. They would concoct a drink from those roots. The British solders would stay around camp eating hardtack. They would get scurvy. It would ruin their health. American solders were far healthier than their British counterparts. The American Solders knew why they were fighting. Many of the British solders had simply been swept up off the streets or out of the jails and put in a uniform. They fought because they feared their officers. When American sharp shooters would kill their officers, they would surrender. On the other hand. There were times when i the job of the American officers had been to hold back the American troops. (At the Battle of Saratoga, if General Gage would not give the order to attack the British, the American Army would do it anyway.) Of course there were times when American militias ran away.Sometimes knowledge of the terrain helped the Americans. That helped Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox in South Carolina. He knew how to use the terrain to make the British attack his palmetto fortifications. It helped General Greene in North Carolina as he wore down and greatly reduced the size of Lord Cornwallace's army.It also helped that the Americans were literate. They observed basic sanitation. They learned and understood the regulations.
