The significance of D-Day was that it was the first time Allied armies were in France to fight the German occupiers.
First rifled cannon. First submarine. First widely-photographed war. First time that whole armies were moved to the battlefield by train. First time that orders were given by telegraph.
one of them is Pope Urban the II
The armies of the 1st Crusade set off from France and Italy on the papally-ordained date of 15 August 1096.
The first Crusade was called as a response to a request from the Roman Emperor in Byzantium for assistance against the invading Turkish armies. It had early successes and became a movement to retake the Holy Land from Muslim armies that had occupied since the ninth-tenth centuries.
One significant difference between the First Crusade and the Second Crusade is the outcomes. The First Crusade resulted in the capture of Jerusalem by the Christian forces, while the Second Crusade did not achieve its primary objective of recapturing Edessa. Additionally, the First Crusade was more successful and united in its goals, while the Second Crusade faced more challenges and internal conflicts among the Christian leaders.
The First Crusade, sometimes referred to as the Siege of Jerusalem, started in 1095 and ended in 1099. Crusader armies from Italy and France broke into separate groups and marched toward Constantinople.
Most of the crusades were named for either the number of the crusade or the area to which armies were marching. Some examples include the First through Ninth Crusades, the Northern Crusades and the Albigensian Crusade.
First the Christian city of Zama and then the Byzantine city of Constantinople.
The First Crusade was the only successful Crusade.
The first crusade was a success but the second was a faliure
The most notable people in the First Crusade included:The Council of Piacenza, which sent ambassadors for the Byzantine Emperor Alexius I who called for help defending the Turks.Later in the year the Council of Clermont and Pope Urban II organised an army against the Turks. The Pope promised that the sins of those who died would be forgiven. The leaders who led their armies against the Turks were Prince Raymond, Hugh of Vermandois who was with Robert (the son of William the Conqueror), Godfrey of Bouillon and his two brothers and Prince Bohemond.
During the Crusades, various leaders and armies fought to free Jerusalem, notably including Godfrey of Bouillon, who led the First Crusade and became one of its key figures in capturing the city in 1099. Other prominent leaders included Richard the Lionheart during the Third Crusade, who fought against Saladin, the Muslim leader who recaptured Jerusalem in 1187. The conflict over Jerusalem involved numerous battles and shifts in control between Christian and Muslim forces throughout the Crusades.
The First Crusade took place in 1096 to 1099.
