In Kentucky, the largest is Mammoth Cave. Not only in Kentucky either! Together with Flint Ridge Cave and others to which it is linked, Mammoth Cave forms the world's most extensive system, approaching 400 miles surveyed passages. The largest cave in the world is the Son Doong cave in Vietnam. It is over five and a half miles long, and has a jungle and a river.ADDED: "the largest cave" does not define the criteria and 5.5 miles is really very short as major caves go, so I looked it up. In 2009 a joint Vietnamese / British expedition found it had the world's largest passage cross-section. So not the largest cave, but a cave containing an unusually large passage.
The world's largest cave to date has recently been identified. And it's in Vietnam. The Son Doong Cave, located in Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park runs 2.5 miles long, and can get as high as 600 feet, that's nearly twice as the now, second largest cave in the world, Deer Cave in Malaysia
The biggest cave in the world is Sơn Đoòng cave in Vietnam. It has a volume of nearly 40 million cubic kilometers. Inside, there’s a river, two jungles, and a localized climate. It was discovered in the early 1990s, and nobody returned until 2009. A man named Ho Khanh first found it while hunting—he’d heard wind and the flow of the river inside. However, on return trips, he couldn’t find the cave again. He searched for it for years before he finally led researchers to it more than a decade later. Now, a limited number of people can explore it each year.
