The White Mountains were formed by uprising magma intrusions as the North American Plate moved over the New England Hotspot around 124 to 100 million years age.
What we see today is the "Skeleton" of the mountains that once were. New mountains are constantly being formed through the action of tectonic action and volcanic action.
The New Forest is in Hampshire.
The elevation of the tree line varies. The tree line is the point on a particular mountain above which no trees grow. Mt. Washington in New Hampshire is shorter than a number of mountains in North Carolina. Mt. Washington has a tree line. The taller mountains in North Carolina do not.
The only cirque in New Hampshire is on the White Mountain Range. Glacial cirques form the heads of Tuckerman Ravine on Mt. Washington and King Ravine on Mt. Adams. Glacial striations are visible on the exposed rocks at the summit of Pine Mountain in Gorham.
