Marijuana is the #1 cash crop in the U.S., if we were to legalize it and tax it we would have a significant new source of tax income. In addition to the state and federal governments having more money at their disposal, legalization would open up business opportunities for local store owners. If hemp were legalized to grow, which is a sister plant of marijuana, it could completely replace the cotton industry, due to its structure and the fact that it adds nutrients to the soil where it is grown, instead of depleting it like cotton does.
