Always Up!

An effect in plants called Geotropism points the plant in the right direction. A Tropism is a movement caused by some stimuli in a plant and Geo refers to the earth and placement upon it.

Scientists suspect that the plant uses the placement of starches within it's cells to determine which way is up and it will then elongate the cells on one side of the stem until it is growing in an upwards direction.

How do daffodils spread?

Daffodils do not go to seed. The grow from bulbs ( the main root of the plant. ) I usually tear apart my daffodils every 4 to 5 years and separate the bulbs, and replant them in different locations. On a side note . . . Deer detest daffodils, so they are a great flowering plant to grow if you have a large deer population. Daffodils do produce seed. Seed from species will come true to type and can take a few years to produce flowers. Hybrids will not come true from seed so are multiflied by various manipulations of the bulbs.

Can you plant seeds from an avocado?

Yes, you can plant avacado seeds. There are 2 ways on how you can plant the seed. Either you can immerse the seed in water or you can plant it in the ground. If you plan to grow it in water, get about 3 toothpicks to make holes in the seed's side. Next you can put the seed half submerge in a jar or glass. You need to make sure that the pointy one needs to be upwards and flat one needs to be in water. If planning to plant in the soil, it needs to have good drainage and porous. The temperature needs to be in between 60 to 70 degrees. The soil moisture must be maintained. In these conditions, the leaves will appear in a few weeks.

Does a plant grow faster with water or an energy drink?

Plants grow faster with water because, it can get its own glucose through photosynthesis. On the other side energy drinks are full of weird colors and stuff anyway, which wouldn't help the plant to grow but the energy in the drink would probably give the plant the energy to grow faster. Water is free from all the chemicals, and helps the plant to grow faster.

Would a plant still grow upwards if you place it in different directions?

A plant does not grow upwards. A tropism is the growth of a plant in response to a stimulus. This means a plant does not grow upwards, it grows towards a stimulus which in most cases is light. Try it out, put a plant in a dark closet with a light on one side and watch the plant grow towards the light. The results should be clear after a number of days. The plant's response to light is known as phototropism. Hope I helped :)

What do plants grow upward?

plants grow upward, because they are attracted to sunlight. This causes them to follow the light and grow closer to it. For instance if you put a growing plant in a pitch black room, except for, say a flashlight, to its right side for a certain amount of time the plant will grow to its right side.

How would the growth of a plant be affected if it were lying on its side?

If a plant is lying on its side, its growth may be affected as its stems and leaves will grow towards the light source, leading to a phenomenon called phototropism. In this case, the plant may exhibit gravitropism as well, curving its stems and roots to grow vertically. However, the overall growth and health of the plant may be compromised due to the lack of stability and support provided by the soil and the challenges in absorbing nutrients and water efficiently.
