If they'd managed to capture the Army of the Potomac, they would have been free to help Braxton Bragg in Chattanooga, and could have destroyed the Army of the Cumberland too.
That would have meant Confederate victory and Southern independence.
The British never recognized the CSA. The Emancipation Proclamation had more to do with that than Gettysburg.
Gettysburg
CSA General Pickett.
The Battle Of Gettysburg resulted in a Union (US) victory over the Rebels (CSA)
Robert E. Lee, CSA.
Usa csa United States of America and the Confederate States of America.
He was in command of a seperate CSA army in I believe South Carolina at the time..the main focus of the civil war is on the Armies of the Potomac (USA) and Northern Virginia (CSA) but there were several other armies in different theatres of war. For instance Grant was in command of the Army of the Tennessee during the time of Gettysburg. (July 4, 1863, one day after the battle of Gettysburg was over, he took Vicksburg Mississippi and opened the mississippi river for union forces)
Interestingly the battle was over a shoe supply at Gettysburg. But this escalated into a chance for the CSA army of Northern Virginia to destroy the USA army of the Potomac and so the battle was fought. After about 4 days of fighting though the CSA, who were winning, decided to commit military suicide by the name of Pickett's Charge, so they lost the battle.
CDL state points and CSA points are 2 different entities. You cannot loose your CDL from CSA, But you could loose a JOB
January 1, 1863 was the day the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln, stating the slaves were free. The 13th Amendment, added to the US Constitution in 1865, would actually give the force of law to the freedom for the slaves that Lincolns document put forth.
The Army of Northern Virginia (CSA) had about 75,000 effective infantry when they crossed into Pennsylvania. They had less than 50,000 effectives when they crossed into into Virginia after the battle.
