disadvantages

the object being imersed in the water may react with water or even dissolve slightly therefore reducing the accuracy of the results. the string used to lower the object into the water may also suck some of the water into it. the object may be too light and float on the water.

advantages

the method is quick and easy if the correct liquid is used with the right object

The basic way is you take the volume of the water before you put the object in the water, then you measure the volume of the water and object you put the in the water and then you subtract the volume of the water by itself from the volume of the water with the object in it.

VO=Volume of object

VW=Volume of water

VWO=Volume of water and object

Volume of object = Volume of water and object -(Minus)- Volume of water

OR

VO=VWO-VW

If an object is submerged in a full container of liquid, its actual volume is the displaced liquid volume.

If an object does not fully submerge (floats), the displaced liquid has the same mass as the object.

Can water displacement find the volume of substances?

Water displacement can accurately find the volume of substances as it represents the same amount of space or volume. An object placed into the water will displace the same amount of water volume as its own volume.

What properties must a solid have for the water displacement method to be useful?

Volume. The displacement method refers to immersing in a liquid. If the liquid is in a container with volume measurement marks, then the object's volume is the difference in the liquid's volume, measured before and after immersion. There's a legend that the discovery of the displacement method was made by Archimedes when entering a bathtub full of water, which overflowed. This is postulated as the source of the exclamation "Eureka!" ("I have found it").

How is water displacement used in the real world?

Water displacement is used to measure the volumn of an irregular shaped object. If a bowling ball was immersed in water, you could use the difference in the before and after water amount to give you the mass of the object inserted.

Describe a method that the student could use to find the volume of this rock?

You can find the volume of a small rock in no time at all. Just fill up a container that is marked by volume with water and record the volume. Then drop the small rock inside the container. Record the new volume. Find the difference between the new and old volumes. This is the volume of the small rock. You could do this in any liquid.

What measurements must you make to find the density of a sample of matters?

density = mass / volume. so you need to weigh to find the mass. To find the volume submerse in water and record the displacement of water to find the volume.

What is the tool to measure volume using water displacement?

A beaker is used to measure volume using water displacement.

How does displacement work?

Water displacement works by calculating the volume of water displaced by submerging an object. This volume corresponds to the volume of the object that was submerged.

How can you measure volume using displacement?

The volume of an object can be determined by the displacement of water. By dropping the object into a measuring container of water, where the volume of the water is known, the object's volume can then be calculated by subtracting the volume of the water by the volume of the water and object combined.

How can you use the displacement of water to measure the volume of an object?

You fill up water ina beaker, measure the volume of the water as it originally was, then drop in an irregulary-shaped object, measure that volume, and subtrect the two. The difference is the volume of the object.

Volume can be measured by ------------ of water?

Displacement.

Can you find the volume of uranium by water displacement?

yes you can you fill the water into the container and measure the amount of water then you place the uranium in the water and measure again. the difference between the two measurements is the volume of the uranium

Why is displacement of water an example of an indirect measurement?

Water displacement is a method to measure volume

What is the Archimedes principle of displacement?

I think it is the volume displacement. When you put an object into a container with a known volume of water, the water will rise, and that change of volume is the volume of the object you introduced into the container.

What is used to measure the volume of a solid with an irregular shape?

Unless you have experience with calculus, your best bet is to do water displacement: Put the object in a known amount of water and record the change and calculate the difference or liquid displacement

How can you find displacement of a metal in 50 mL of water when given the mass?

Place the piece of metal in 50mL of water and subtract the 50mL from the new volume of water. The difference will be the volume of the metal in mL and cm3. Then find the density by dividing the mass by the volume of the metal. The water must completely cover the metal in order for the displacement method of determining the volume to work.

How do you f ind volume of an object using water displacement method?

Fill a market beaker to a specific measured volume. (Eg. 50cm cubed, make sure you have not filled the beaker with water). Now place the object in the beaker with water. The water level should rise (Eg. from 50cm cubed to 60cm cubed). The difference in the original volume and the final volume is the volume of the object. That is the water displacement method.
