You would have to replace the transaxle, you would have to cut a hole in the floor for the shift column, you would have to get the engine ECM reflashed, you'd have to install a clutch pedal and all mounting hardware.
You won't convert it, you will have to replace everything.
Sure! But it would probably be cheaper to buy another car.
Why the hell would you want to?
Yes, by removing the manual transmission and installing an automatic. Unless you have a donor car this would be extremely expensive. My advice is that if you want an A/T sell the car you have and then buy one with an automatic.
By selling this car and buying another one with a manual. Unless you have a donor car, with all the parts, this would be cost prohibitive.
You cannot convert an automatic transmission to a manual one, but you can replace the automatic with a manual. It is a big job and if you do not do it your self would probably cost a lot more than selling the automatic truck and buying a manual truck. The manual will require different shift linkage, adding clutch pedal and parts to actuate the clutch, and you may need a drive shaft of different length. It is also common for automatics and manuals to use different rear axle ratios, and even the Electrinic Control Module and some wiring may need to be changed. Maybe that automatic is not so bad after all.
It is impossible to 'convert' an automatic transmission into a manual transmission. You car replace the automatic with a manual, which also requires installing a clutch pedal, clutch cable, or clutch master and slave cylinders, as well as a shifter and shift linkages. Check at local junkyards for a car about the same year, make, and model as the one that you have which has a manual transmission, remove, or have removed, this transmission, including the clutch and bell housing, and install these in your car.
Yes it can be done, but there is really no point as it is a big job and will cost more than its worth. Plus a manual transmission is way better than a automatic. If you would rather have a automatic transmission it would be wise to just sell the vehicle that has the manual and buy a vehicle equipped with an automatic.
it depends on what kind of car, how much of parts inventory you personally have, and how much work you are planning on doing.............
It would not likely be cost effective to convert the transmission. It would cost several thousand dollars, but it is doable.
Why would want to do that ? Manual transmission own.
your dumb
With a manual transmission you downshift to slow down in situations where in an automatic you would have to use the brakes. Using brakes more = brakes wearing faster.
