In computer software, the veiwport is the area in which things are displayed visually. For instance, in 3D programs, the viewport is the display of a 3D environment where the user is performing the modeling/animation. With 3D programs, the viewport usually will display things crudely, as to save memory while working, then allowing the user to render things with more detail (and things left out/downgraded in the viewport such as texturing, and partial transparency, or reflections/refractions).
