Electrons flow along a protein pathway to produce ATP

The kerbs cycle and the electron transport chain takes place within the mitochondria in the cell. It uses the double membrane within the mitochondria itself to send electrons down the membrane to produce ATP.
The mitochondrial inner membrane forms internal compartments - within the organelle - known as cristae, which allow greater space for the proteins such as cytochromes to function correctly. Also, the electron transport chain is located on the inner membrane of the mitochondria and within the mitochondrions inner membrane are also transport proteins that transport in a highly controlled manner metabolites across this membrane.
Oxidative Phosphorilation occurs in the Matrix of the Mitochondria (the innermost compartment) of Eukaryotes (organisms with a membrane bound nucleus). However, in bacteria it occurs in the plasma membrane.
MT chromosome, or Mitochondrial chromosomes, are found in the mitochondria of the cell. Mitochondria are structures within cells that convert the energy from food into a form that cells can use. Although most DNA is packaged in chromosomes within the nucleus, mitochondria also have a small amount of their own DNA.

The electron transport system used for ATP synthesis happens in the inner membrane of the mitochondrion and the proteins embedded within that membrane.
A mitochondrion is a double-membraned organelle with an outer membrane and inner membrane. The inner membrane contains folds called cristae that increase its surface area for energy production. Inside the mitochondrion is a fluid-filled space called the matrix where the citric acid cycle and oxidative phosphorylation occur.
mitochondrial inner membrane. Here, electrons from NADH and FADH2 are passed along the electron-transport chain, leading to the pumping of protons across the membrane. The resulting proton gradient drives ATP synthesis via ATP synthase, a process known as chemiosmosis.
