The thing is, the atmosphere doesn't end abruptly. Rather, it gets thinner and thinner (less dense, to be precise) as you get away from Earth. "Outer space" is often defined as starting at an altitude of 100 kilometers above sea level - or some similar value.

In space there is nothing to slow it down, when it comes to the Earths atmosphere there is resistance as the air tries to slow it down, this creates heat and the tempretures can reach thousands of degrees, rock melts at about 1200ºC.

The bullet will travel as fast as it would on earth (possibly a little faster, due to the lack of air resistance in the barrel). Once it left the barrel, it would continue with the same speed until slowed by gravity, or it entered a planetary atmosphere- or hit something.
Skylab no longer exists. The last crew left for the final time in 1974. It re-entered the earth's atmosphere 5 years later and burned up.

If a person was in a simulated earth atmosphere they might get weaker because of the reduced gravity. If they were left out on the surface without any sort of space suit they would die rather quickly.

When a spacecraft goes into space its speed increases dramatically once it leave the earths atmosphere. When it is returning to earth, it hits the atmosphere at a faster rate than it was traveling when it left. The friction of the atmosphere against the craft, heats it up.
Bar codes were originally used in space when they had to scan it on their way out of the space craft so the ISS would know exactly when they left and when they came back in and exactly how long they have been out.

If this is a physics question then it could be written as, "Why is every space which is not filled with something else, filled with air?" The same question could be, "Why does air fill every empty space it can find?" The answer is "gravity". Gravity pulls the atmosphere as close to the Earth as it can. If there is a hole in the atmosphere such as an empty bottle, then the atmosphere has to sit a bit higher than it would like. By rushing some air into the bottle, there is a bit more space left down here for all the other molecules of air to settle into. You could say that the pressure of the air above pushes the air down here into every empty space it can find.
