The Moon does not have an atmosphere, but it does have gravity, about 1/6 that experienced on Earth. So while the weight of an object would be far less, and there would be no air resistance, it would still have to accelerate to over 5300 mph to escape into space from the lunar surface. This is called escape velocityfor the Moon.

What is a Lunar colony?

A lunar colony is when you live on the moon in a colony of people. A lunar colony is a colony on the moon. Note that there are at the present time no lunar colonies, and no prospects of any lunar colonies in the foreseeable future. Such a thing would be really expensive to create, and while it would be very scientifically interesting, it is not clear that it would be profitable.
