AND love your neighbor as yourself, all
Gods laws & those spoken by prophets hang on this''.....it is
a sure way to avoid sin.(these
are not my words but THE WORD that was with God speaking when HE came as man inorder
to redeem us & choose salvation.)

Of course, staying close to God and following his commands can help us stay out of trouble, but the scriptures tell us "if we make the statement 'we have no sin' we are misleading ourselves and the truth is not in us"(James 3:2) Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent human sin at present(Ecclesiastes 7:20/James 3:2/Psalm 51:5). Human sin was inherited from Adam(Romans 5:12) and it's now part of our nature(Romans 3:23). Those who follow Jesus' example to the best of their ability and try to remain obedient to his father(Matthew 7:21-23), can be FORGIVEN for their sins(Matthew 9:2/Luke 7:47+48/1 John 2:1+2), but no human can prevent the sinful imperfect nature of humanity for now(Romans 3:9/1 John 1:8/Proverbs 20:9/Psalm 130:3).
Sins are serious when they prevent you from receiving the sacraments.
The expression "committing the cardinal sin" refers to violating one of the seven deadly sins in Christian theology. The seven deadly sins are lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride. Committing a cardinal sin is seen as a serious transgression with significant moral consequences.
Though it is recommended to confess all sins, the only mandatory ones to confess are mortal sins. Sins that have been committed with full intention of committing it, full knowledge of how evil it is, and that are grave sins (All three conditions must be met for a sin to be mortal).
reading the bible and saying your prayers... basically just committing yourself to god :S
Both of them are based on the same principles of praying to one god and not committing sins.
well, the priest absolves you of your sins, but you have to do a penance to make up for your sin.
Greater Jihad, which is an introspective journey to conquer your internal demons and follow the Divine Laws more closely than previously, is a practice to promote a person's piety. The greater Jihad is the struggle to follow Islam morals and teachings and prevent yourself from committing sins. (This is in contrast to Lesser Jihad, which is a social contest of wills.)Refer to related question: What are the two types of jihad in Islam?
In the sacrament of reconciliation, the pardon of sins is when a person confesses their sins to a priest, who acts in the person of Christ, and after genuine contrition and making a firm resolution to avoid sin, absolves the person of their sins. This absolution removes the guilt and restores the person to a state of grace, reconciling them with God and the Church.
Jihad does not mean any of the words in the question. Jihad means struggle against military attacks as well as struggle to prevent your self from committing sins or deviations from Islamic morals and rules. Refer to related question below.
The greatest jihad (or major Jihad) is the struggle to avoid committing sins or violating Islam morals and rules. Refer to related question below.
Well lightening won't strike you down. All sins are equal in the sight of God. All people sin, and that includes people who take communion. I'm pretty sure there are no rules as to who can and can't take communion, and there certainly is no one checking. Although honestly, if you're really afraid of whether or not a person can take communion while committing adultery, I would advise you to change your priorities. Communion won't get its feelings hurt, but spouses can.
I imagine that in some people's minds they believe they are justified to god by committing particular sins, or honoring god by doing so. They may even think god has told them and directed them to commit such sins. Peoples individual ideas of the truth are sometimes wildly different from perceived reality.
