First, I would start with the basics like, sit, stay, come, wait, and things like that. Then, I would get my dog to get used to the sound of the gun so it doesn't crazy when you fire. Last, I would test my dogs basics by bringing a fake toy on a string and moving it around, making your dog stay put. Make sure you got these things DOWN before you actually try it. Good Luck!

Another answer:

Speaking as a gundog owner, I'd strongly advise anyone contemplating acquiring a gundog for active work to contact their local gundog association - there will be breed-specific organizations - and seek expert advice on training methods. They'll be only too happy to help you.

Training of any working dog is far more specialized than basic Dog Training, and needs to be got right to begin with; I wouldn't like to see a good gundog trained the wrong way, however well-intentioned the training.

If you're intending getting a gundog simply as a companion animal and not for work, then training will be the same as for any companion (pet) dog. Again, though, you'll find it worthwhile contacting the local organization for your particular breed, for extra tips and tricks. If your pet is a crossbreed, you can also contact dog trainers in your area who will help, perhaps in group training sessions.

Good early treatment and training makes all the difference to your relationship with your dog; avoiding problems before they happen means a much happier pet and owner.

Edit: I feel "Another Answer", above is right on target. I'd add that in the field your dogs need to eat on schedule (roughly). To manage that during training, feed them breakfast (remember to adjust for activity level -- if they're hunting, they require more food). In training, begin with a starter's pistol (22 cal blanks) and work up to what you're actually shooting in the field, fired while they're eating.

It usually takes very little time before they ignore the noise and eat their meals served. This is nearly the same as working with K9s and War Dogs and it's simple. If you encounter problems, ask several Vets, friends, especially other gun dog owners, who is the best gun dog trainer in the area?

Yes, it can and will train a dog if used properly. Dog Shock Collars can be used for a variety of training purposes, for obedience training, to deter barking, to keep your dog within your yard, or for hunting. it is important to remember that that Dog Training Collars don't train your dog, you do. You should research using Shock Collars for your specific situation before you buy a Dog Training Collar and read all the relevant material that comes with your specific model after you buy it, and before you use it.
