It depends on the situation. In Spanish it makes a difference if you are speaking in terms of a permanant situation, or something that is changeable. The verb "ser" and its conjugated forms imply permanace or intrinsic quality. "Estar" is used for transient conditions or location.

I also makes a difference on whether the "you" is singular or plural. And also, whether it is used in a formal or informal situation.

Singular informal: eres or estás.

Singular formal: es or está

Plural informal: sois or estáis

Plural formal: son or están
